Speed Cleaning

Ever need to clean your home in rapid speed due to unexpected visitors? Same!

Drop in visits can be equally amazing and terrifying, depending on the state of your home at the time. Being a mom is busy, and while maintaining a cleaning schedule does very much assist with this, in a pinch, there is a system that can help.

4 Steps to Speed Cleaning your Home

  1. Start with the Bathrooms – Give the toilets a quick clean and wipe down. Tend to the countertops and sinks with a quick sprits of an all purpose cleaner and wipe away all the yucky. Wipe the fixtures, mirror and hang a fresh towel. Wipe the wall beneath the hand towel, as this is a major splash zone. It is amazing how fast human and pet hair can build up on all surfaces, and giving everything a quick wipe can tame this for the time being.
  2. Manage the Kitchen – Put away the dishes that are clean and still sitting out. Utilize your dishwasher to hide messes. Declutter and wipe down the counters. Rinse out the sink. If the garbage stinks or the recycling is overflowing, take them out. And if you want to go the extra mile, give your appliances a good wipe.
  3. Declutter the Living Spaces – Put away any toys and books. Gather and disperse paperwork and newspapers. Take a moment to give obvious furniture a dusting or a fluffing. Light a candle on a safe surface or turn on an oil diffuser to fill the room with a welcoming scent.
  4. End with the Floors – Once the areas that are likely to be seen have had a quick tidy and wipe down, run the vacuum through. This will collect any fallen dirt or debris from your mad dash of a cleaning. If necessary, take a disinfectant wipe (or steam mop if you have more time) and spot clean high traffic areas or any messes on the floors. The dining area is usually in desperate need of this when children are involved.

There you have it. It doesn’t have to be extensive or require fancy cleaning products or tools. Maintaining a clean home can make a statement that we have our sh*t together, even on the hardest of days. A home is a place for living, and messes and clutter happen and that will always be okay. A tidy, presentable home will always leave a lasting impression, and will make you feel so good when someone comments on it or asks how you do it with everything else you do.

I, for one, am proud to maintain a clean home and pride myself on my cleaning schedule, but messes will and do still happen. Staying on top of them as much as you can will help reduce the mad dash of a cleaning when put on the spot. A clean home is a happy home and reduces stress, anxiety and you can always find what you’re looking for because it is where it meant to be.

Happy tidying friends!
