Sunday Reset

We’ve all heard of the “Sunday Scaries”. The dreaded day before a new work week, fresh school week, our final moments of rest before the madness starts again. But what if we utilized a Sunday to prepare for the week ahead, versus creating panic? This will not only help out with less tasks at hand for the upcoming days but can also put your mind at ease, being prepare for all that the week may throw at you.

Sunday can be seen as the last day of the week, or the start of a brand new week. Regardless of how you view it, it can be a day of rest, which I highly recommend, but can also be a day of productivity. We can tackle all the little tasks we have been putting off. Which more often than not, takes much less time than we expect. It is when we pile these smaller tasks up and make a list, that it can look overwhelming and time consuming. But by tackling these duties, we not only get them accomplished, we gain that sense of pride for completion.

Here is a list of some Sunday reset tasks that I try to accomplish.

Clean and replace all of the towels – this includes bath towels, hand towels, tea towels and any lingering cleaning cloths.

Change the sheets – I do this bi-weekly. Strip, launder and remake all of the beds in the house. I also clean our change pad covers, regularly used blankets and sleep sacks for the littles.

Clean the pet bowls – giving these a thorough cleaning to have a fresh start to the week for our furry family members.

Clean the sterilizer – for my bottle feeding mamas out there, every Sunday I would clean and disinfect my bottle sterilizer. While this tool is used for making sure our babies have the cleanest of bottles for their feedings, this also needs some recognition to ensure there is not mold or mildew built up.

Brush the pets -especially in the changing seasons, our pets can shed like crazy. By giving them some loving attention by petting them and brushing them, we can prevent less (but not all) tumbleweeds of fur fluttering about.

Vacuum – doesn’t have to be thorough, I do that on a different day in the week, but a quick run through the house is always satisfying.

Clean the microwave – it is amazing how nasty our microwaves can get. By cleaning these weekly, it saves us the trouble of caked on matter later.

Set my weekly planner – Staying on top of everyone’s schedules is a homemakers duty and we are damn good at it. By reviewing these ourselves, we are reminded and fully aware of what the week ahead has in store. This includes appointments, schedules, meal planning, activities, meetings, playdates, visitors and even our own self care. Anything and everything is noted and we are ready for it.

Those are just a few of the many tasks you can assign yourself for a Sunday. Do what works best for you. These are just the things I try to accomplish and focus on for a Sunday. In our family, my husbands work schedule is never set as a Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 schedule, so this helps us know when we can book things and plan for our ever changing days. Being prepared and ready is key, but maintaining flexibility will help save your sanity. Things come up, plans can change, sickness occurs, anything is possible. By being one step ahead, it only makes things a bit easier, and that’s all we can strive for.
