Cleaning Schedule: Weekends
Weekends can be a nice time for catching up on the weeks chores, tackling larger projects that we have put off or that require more planning, or they can be completely chaotic with activities. No matter if you are a stay at home parent, or a working parent, weekends are not typically any different or restful than any other day of the week. While it is important to slot in some self-care and personal downtime, we can also utilize our time wisely and still feel accomplished at the end of each day.
I like to use my weekends for a whole lot of planning and a reset for the week ahead. No matter what has happened this past week, sickness, tantrums, appointments, mishaps, whatever has happened, the next week is a fresh start and planning helps us feel ready for what is ahead. On Saturdays, I like to meal plan. Decide on what will be for dinner each day of the upcoming week, prep snacks such as cut up veggies or fruit that hasn’t been prepared throughout the past week, and do any baking to offer healthier alternatives to store bought options such as muffins or cookies.
Also on Saturdays I like to clean our toys and play mat, creating a more sterilized environment for my littles to play in. Realistically, we do not always get to this, but with it in my schedule and the intent to do so, it is more likely to happen because I have planned for it.
Consider a digital dump from the week, cleaning off your phone or computer of notes, screenshots or multiplied photos taken in a hurry that aren’t necessary to keep stored. You can also tackle this with physical paperwork, junk mail, newspapers and any documents that need to be filed away or placed in their desired locations. And it never hurts to throw in a quick vacuum or spot mop in the high traffic areas of your home.
Sundays are for reviewing and planning for the week ahead. This allows me to stay on top of everyone’s schedule, remember appointments, activities and visits for the coming week. While things can change in an instant, at least I have an overview of what is to come.

Weekends are a great time to get things done, and can also be completely crazy. Like any other time of the week, plan accordingly, be flexible and don’t overdo it. You are no good to anyone, including yourself, if you are overworked or stressed out. Everything will get done eventually, so allow yourself the grace and kindness to sit down every once in a while. Take a breather. You’ve got this!
