A Tidy Home Guide

Life is always busy. Finding time to accomplish anything can feel near impossible when you are managing a household and everyone else’s schedules. There is never a perfect time to go after your dreams or start that new hobby, it is time made and internal discipline to keep going that create greatness.

When I worked fulltime, I struggled to balance my job, household chores and a social life plus personal responsibilities. As many of us do, I look back to when I was single, and I find it comical that I thought that my life was busy back then. While it was in it’s own manner, now, as a wife and mother of almost 3, things are so much more hectic and demanding. But we adapt and change as life needs us to. Different seasons of life require us to be different people. It is finding the balance, developing the systems and maintaining the structure wherever we can that assists us.

Maintaining a tidy home can feel like a joke when you have little ones. The moment you have cleaned up a space and made it look great and smell fresh, a mini human comes in with their own agenda and destroys the image. By creating a tidy home system, we can accept this a little easier. Including morning tasks, evening tasks, daily tasks and rotating tasks, we can keep track of where we need to be when, which day and how often.

Here is my tidy home guide that works for our household and my current season of life.

Morning:

  • Make the beds
  • Empty the dishwasher
  • Quick clutter pickup
  • Wipe down the bathroom counters

Evening:

  • Wash and dry the dishes, load the dishwasher
  • Wipe down the kitchen counters and sink
  • 10 minute tidy
  • Vacuum high traffic areas
  • Prepare for tomorrow

Daily Tasks:

  • Monday: Clean the Bathrooms
  • Tuesday: Dusting
  • Wednesday: Clean the Kitchen
  • Thursday: Mop the Floors
  • Friday: Wipe Down Surfaces
  • Saturday: Laundry
  • Sunday: Reset for the Week Ahead

Rotating Tasks:

  • Week 1: Deep Clean the Kitchen
  • Week 2: Clean Windows and Mirrors
  • Week 3: Deep Clean the Living Spaces
  • Week 4: Tidy and Organize Storage Spaces

The beauty of a guide, is it is adjustable and flexible and can be made to work with however your days and weeks need it to. It is created to give structure and clarity to what is needed to be done, without the overwhelm of endless to-do lists that seem fun to make but easily are ignored. Life doesn’t pause because you lack sleep or are in a bad mood, or someone gets sick. When we know what that day holds because it has been scheduled like everything else, it makes it less daunting and aggravating to achieve. Taking on our tasks day by day, moment by moment verses drowning in them can make all the difference in how clean our homes are, how organized our lives are and how we feel about our space. While we can’t see into the future or control everything that happens, we can guide our lives into the direction we want them to go with the tasks we take on and the discipline we create for ourselves.
