Budget Friendly Home Upgrades and Fixes
We have all been there, you look around your home and think “I need a change”. Our styles and tastes change over time, as well as our needs based on our current season with our family. Huge renovations can be expensive, messy and often intimidating, but current quick fixes don’t have to be. These can be quick, painless and quite easy. While some tasks can still be outsourced, others can be done on your own with a little elbow grease and research to ensure you are doing it the right way and safely.
Here are some fast ideas that can be done around the house and within budget.
- Declutter to make everything look more spacious.
- Clean windows, inside and out.
- Remove any scuff marks on the walls (use a magic eraser).
- Scrub the grout.
- Replace (or spray paint) old hardware like door handles or cabinet knobs.
- Upgrade the light switch panels.
- Power wash the driveway and walkways.
- Clean the siding of the house.
- Replace or update the house number.
- Fix, paint, or replace the mailbox if you have one.
- Clean and tidy the house, as often as you can.
- Make a list of anything small that needs fixing and DIY it.
- Repaint the walls where ever necessary.
- Touchup baseboards and trim.
- Add mirrors to make the rooms feel larger and reflect light.
- Clean, or paint the front door.
- Add flowers and plants, both inside and outside.
- Make your bed like a hotel, with layers, pillows, crisp sheets.
- Hide cords and wires to make the house feel tidier.
- Add a new doormat.
- Put out fresh towels.
- Fluff pillows.
- Open all curtains and blinds to let in more light.
- Fix any squeaky doors or drawers.
- Add more lamps to use in the evenings.
- Use an air purifier and scent diffuser.
- Set out nice hand towels and soaps to be used in the bathrooms.
- Put on relaxing music in the background.
We often start to see past things for long periods of time, but once we notice them, they drive us crazy until we do something about it. Some tasks may be more time consuming, but even the small, super quick tasks can have major impacts on how your home feels. You are the one who has to live there, so it is best to create a space you admire. Personalize where ever you see fit, make it your own, DIY and find what makes you the most comfortable.
