Cleaning Schedule: Mondays

Maintaining a cleaning schedule just seems to work for me. As a busy mom of two, I no longer have the time to devote an entire day to doing a full house clean, so I break it up into daily tasks. As discussed in A Manageable Cleaning Schedule, by breaking down the most necessary tasks into designated days, I am more likely to accomplish these cleaning items weekly. While this may not happen every single week or even on it assigned day all of the time, it is a guide I can follow. It not only helps me keep focused on what needs to be done, but also reminds me what day it is, because lets face it, when you have babies, the week becomes a huge blended blur.

Life is chaotic and busy from the moment you become a parent. Schedules can feel like a distant memory, but this is simply a season of our lives and soon we can find our way back to a pattern. We can add to these assigned days more and more if we choose. Or find hobbies we enjoy to fill our newly awarded free time as our kids develop more independence.

Until that day comes, I live by my current cleaning schedule. Let’s start with the beginning of the week, shall we?

Monday = Bathrooms

Each bathroom is given attention. Our home has 3. All toilets are thoroughly cleaned, scrubbed on the inside, wiped down on the outside. Sinks get cleaned until they sparkle, a disinfectant cleaner is used to avoid the spreading of germs. The tub gets wiped down as my children splash so much water during bath time it’s wild. Our shower gets it’s glass walls wiped down so they are actually see-through, rather than a soap scum mildew built up. Bath mats are shaken out. Floors are vacuumed. Baseboards and walls where water may be splashed upon are given a quick swipe of a cloth. And all surfaces are wiped down, such as the toilet paper holders, countertops, shelves and towel rods. Mirrors are tended to at the end to leave a shiny finish.

These are my tasks on Mondays. Give or take items added to that day such as making appointments, outside work, managing my children’s day, all on top of this assignment. The bathrooms are getting constant use and by tending to their cleanliness each week, I can feel confident in my family having a tidy space to maintain their hygiene. It’s amazing how good it feels to complete this and know I typically don’t have to tackle these for another week.

On to the next!
